ACAPPELLA FELLAS is a church-based, non profit organization based in Tortola (British Virgin Islands). The group was formed in 1992 when most of the members at the time were in high school. The name Acappella Fellas was given by the Founding Leader, Mr. Gregory Adams. From its conception, the group has comprised of members from various denominations throughout the territory. The fellas have been inspired by veteran male singing groups such as Foggy Mountain Boys, The Old Timers, and The Jubileers; all of which hail from the British Virgin Islands. Members also enjoy listening to Boys II Men and Take 6 whose harmonies are always complex and challenging.
The Fellas began their ministry by singing at church services and over time as their confidence and notoriety grew, branched off into performing at church and community concerts. In 1993, they began Christmas caroling around Tortola; a tradition that continues today. Over the years, they have continued to arrange and compose songs for Christmas and their repertoire has grown to a large number of various songs which are performed throughout the year. As young positive men in the community the fellas now seek to inspire the young and old, striving for excellence through music and using their voices to spread God's word. Their ministry in song blends traditional, contemporary, jazz, gospel, negro spiritual, fungi, and calypso styles.
Acappella Fellas is not simply a singing group, but a brotherhood that exists to praise God through song. Therefore, the hope for the group is that their work in the coming years will continue to inspire upcoming generations to continue a legacy of service and commitment to the church and the community as a whole. The fellas recognize that they are blessed to have the talents to compose, arrange and sing A cappella music. To date, the fellas have released two christmas albums which hopefully will enable people from all over the world to experience Christmas in the BVI. The Fellas are now putting together material for their first all season album.
